This set of Old and New Testament Commentaries was first given to me by a dear friend and theological mentor.  You can’t beat them for cultural and historical context as you read through the Bible.  This is the book I turn to before I begin a Bible study to set the context.  The discussion on the time the book was written, who wrote the book, and why it was written is invaluable for setting my understanding of the overall theme.  A must have for every theologians library.
